Hello and welcome to
this week's weekly magic trick newsletter.
Do you
enjoy coin magic tricks?
Coin magic is a highly respected genre of
magic among magicians and is usually well received among all
audiences. This is because
spectators relate to coins at an
emotional level. This means they pay more attention to the trick and
give you a bigger reaction.Since
coins are common objects, people often have less suspicion that the
item is gimmicked.
Here's a Great Party Trick!
How to Make a Coin Vanish Inches From The Spectator's Eyes
-
Hold a coin*
in your right hand, and a person's hand with your left.
-
Tell the
person that you will place a coin in the palm of his hand three
times, and the last time it will disappear. Instruct him that
each time the coin touches his palm, the hand must be
immediately closed.
-
Swing your
arm quickly three times from the top of your head to his hand;
each time pressing the coin into the palm, and withdrawing it.
-
Before you
lower your arm the third time, leave the coin on top of your
head, and press your thumb nail into the palm instead.
-
Then tell the
person that the coin, which he believes is still held in his
hand, has disappeared. Examination will reveal that this is
true.
Tip:
Pressing the coin into the palm creates a feeling in the hand that
the coin is there.
* A
dime works best because it is small.

More On
Coin Magic...
The art of coin magic has a set of techniques
for hiding and transferring coins. Two of the most widely known
techniques are palming and The French Drop. If you
take a moment to
click on my techniques page, you will
find detailed information on how to perform the French Drop,
several palming techniques,
and other techniques will soon be posted.
In the coming weeks you will receive more
great coin magic tricks that will require you to know these
techniques if you don't already. It would also be helpful to become
familiar with palming because it is a fundamental skill in the art
of magic.

Feedback from
Trick #1
Last week I introduced a version of
the vanishing/penetrating glass through a table trick that was said
to be by one subscriber a "weekend version". Luckily the weekly
magic tricks community has great people who offer feedback. Here is
what David W suggests...
"Place a coin on the table, tell your audience you will make it
vanish while they look directly at it. Wrap the glass in news paper
forming the shape of the glass and cover the coin, uncover the coin
showing it again and count down "three, two, one" it's nice to
gesture the count with your free hand too. The dirty work is done as
you count.
Look a little puzzled and do it again, this time don't bring the
glass wrapped in the paper anywhere near the edge of the table. On
the third time cover the coin and out of the blue slap your free
hand on top of it crushing the news paper, lift it to show the glass
gone, with your free hand reach under the table removing the glass
to show that it penetrated through.
I used to do a nice thing with it, I would use a delicate glass and
let it fall to smash on the floor as it went through the table, when
they look under to see it you can pick the coin up in the paper and
as a punch line as the reaction dies down you point to the empty
table saying that the coin went.
You will notice where my wording "weakened" came in. The
misdirection of them looking and waiting for the coin to vanish is
strong and relevant. This is missing from your source. The
remembering to put a bit of paper under the glass will direct there
attention to where you want it to go to some degree, it will also
leave them with too many questions as to why, it will become the
obvious place to look on any reconstruction attempts.
Try what I put above and see the difference. I recon you will like
it.
